Frequently asked questions.
Q: What type of training do you offer?
A: At Camo Dog Trainer, I offer general obedience for your dog and specialize in reactivity and behavior modification.
Q: Is 1:1 training right for my dog, or should I start with a group class?
A: 1:1 training is ideal for ALL dogs. The individualized approach allows you to receive exactly what you and your dog need. It is especially good for those struggling with reactivity or specific behavioral issues. I will build a personalized plan just for you and your dog, often starting in a low-distraction environment before slowly moving to real-world scenarios. Classes provide a convenient, interactive, and supportive environment where you and your dog can learn together.
Q: How long does it take to fix my dog's reactivity?
A: "Fixing" reactivity is a process of management and emotional change, not a quick fix. In my 1:1 sessions, I aim for immediate relief through better handling and management strategies first, followed by proven techniques that will begin the process of counter conditioning your dog’s reactive behavior. Long-term progress, such as reducing the frequency and intensity of barking/lunging, typically requires consistent homework over several weeks. I focus on teaching your dog to feel safe and calm around their triggers.
Q: I only need help with one specific issue (like pulling on the leash). Do I have to commit to a full package?
A: While packages offer the best value and long-term results, especially for reactivity, I do offer initial single consultations to assess your dog's specific needs and provide a focused action plan. For general obedience issues like basic leash pulling, a smaller number of sessions may be all you need to get back on track.
Q. Are there other training opportunities after I complete my training package?
A: Clients who have completed training packages or are current clients have exclusive opportunities to attend structured training walks with other clients. This allows your dog to receive appropriate and structured socialization around other like minded dog owners with my keen supervision. Premier board and train experiences will be offered to clients who have completed a training package in the future.
